Cordaid geeft toezegging subsidie voor project Malawi

Het project in Malawi kan dankzij de subsidie van Cordaid worden uitgebreid.

MCM’s target group is children and youth between 14-18 years of age in the prisons Kachere and Mbyanzi in Malawi. The general objective of YiP and MCM is to enable these incarcerated children and youth to contribute positively to society in a positive and constructive way.

To be able to do that, MCM focuses her activities on different levels of intervention. It starts with projects that prepare the incarcerated children and youth in Kachere and Mbyanzi for a successful comeback to society. The second intervention is to break the stigma, the social isolation that many former incarcerated children and youth face when coming out of prison, so that a successful come back into society will be more likely. And at last, MCM works on building capacity within the organization to improve programs and become more sustainable so that in the future MCM can support better and more children and youth in prison.

These three interventions lead to the sub-objectives of YiP:

1. Successful Reintegration in society of Kachere and Mbyanzi children and youth that are released.

2. Advocacy and lobby to break stigma of social isolation of former incarcerated children and youth.

3. Building capacity of MCM to be able to develop a sustainable effective program.

A small part of the project will be used for micro financing for children who leave prison/be set at liberty.
